Christmas Oratorio Chamber Choir
Musical sermon and operatic history report
The chamber choir from Freiburg and the Camerata Academica with the Christmas oratorio in Rust.
Johann Sebastian Bachs Christmas oratorio has been one of the favourite clerical choir work for centuries. In this musical wealth you can always discover new treasures. Now the Freiburg Chamber Choir and the Camerata Academica Freiburg are performing the work in Rust under the direction of Lukas Grimm.
On Sunday, 15th December 2019, the first three and the sixth cantatas will be performed at the DOME of Europa-Park in Rust from 7pm. The concert is in favour of the charity 'Kinderherzen retten' from Freiburg. For the conductor Lukas Grimm, the work unfolds great appeal on many levels: ‘as an almost operatic historical report, as a musical sermon or simply as ingenious music’. Grimm raises the question of how to ‘stage’ such a concertante work in terms of interpretation and the link to the presence.
The tenor Jan Petryka from Vienna as evangelist will tell a living narrator of the birth of Christ. The renowned alto singer Britta Schwarz, the soprano singer Julia Grüter, who is based at the State Opera in Nuremberg, and the baritone Johannes Hill from Wiesbaden, who already performed the role of Elias on an Israel tour with the Camerata Academica Freiburg, complete the solo quartet.
