General information for using the attractions in the case of physical disabilities

At some of our attractions

  • Large forces can occur due to sudden changes in direction, rapid changes in speed or changes in position.
  • speed and driving manoeuvres can be controlled by the passenger.
  • there may be steps, thresholds, automatically opening/closing doors and edges.
  • In the case of evacuation being necessary, the narrow footbridges, narrow and steep stairs, narrow passages or a transfer to rescue platforms must be able to be navigated, and if necessary, quickly.

It may be the case at some attractions that you will be assigned specific seats in the attraction. This is done to reduce the potential risk of injury and to facilitate access in the event of an evacuation.

The characteristics of the various physical disabilities are as varied as the range of our attractions. Due to your physical limitations and the dynamic driving movements of the attraction, the ride may be uncomfortable for you. You are the best judge of yourself and your abilities. Please observe the course of the ride before using it and, if necessary, ask our staff about the attraction. A good source of information for the manoeuvres that occur on an attraction are, for example, on-ride videos from the various video portals on the Internet. If you are not sure whether an attraction is suitable for you, please do not ride it. We are sure that our wide range of attractions will still offer you a satisfying choice of fun-filled moments and memories.

Information for the use of attractions by guests with amputations/prostheses

Some attractions may have a limit on the maximum number of prosthetic limbs and/or maximum amputation height.

Furthermore, it is not possible to ride with prostheses on some attractions due to the increased risk of injury for you and other people, or due to the fact that the function of the restraint systems would be restricted by the prostheses. The prostheses must be taken off before starting the journey. In this case, it may still be possible to ride if the minimum physical requirements of the attraction are met without wearing prostheses.

Prostheses must sit firmly on the body throughout the journey. Hand and arm prostheses must also be attached to the vehicle, such as via a retaining bracket, during the entire journey.

The most important criterion is that the the restraint systems are able to properly function for passenger safety. This is not the case, for example, when restraint systems that are close to the body rest on the prosthesis socket and not on the natural leg.

Classification of rides and requirements for rides

Our attractions are divided into four categories, each of which requires certain minimum physical requirements for visitors to be able to ride. In addition to being in general good physical and mental health, the two most important criteria for use, except for ‘No Support Required’ attractions, are:

  • Complete control of the upper body from the lumbar vertebrae area in order to be able to muster the appropriate power to compensate for the ride movements that occur.
  • The presence and functionality of legs and arms to be able to support or fix themselves in the attraction. The supports or fixings can also be done with prostheses if necessary.

Below you will find explanations of the individual categories of our attractions and the respective physical requirements. As a rule of thumb, the higher the category, the higher the forces involved when using the attraction. This also increases the necessary requirements for physical abilities to ensure safe use.

Category: No support required

Rides in this category mainly perform slow movements and the loads that occur largely correspond to everyday situations.

  • Only low demands are placed on the upper body in terms of functionality and the ability to withstand the forces that occur. It is generally sufficient if the passenger is assisted by a technical aid, for example they are able to take the intended riding position throughout the journey through use of a wheelchair or with an attendant.
  • There are no requirements for the presence and functionality of arms with hands or legs.
  • Legs and arms can also be fitted with prosthetics.

The following attractions do not require support

Adventure Playground, Cinderella, BIG-Bobby-Car Circuit, Casa da Aventura, The Valiant Little Tailor, The Golden Goose, Dingle Bay, Doctor Know-All, Danube Steamer, Sleeping Beauty Castle, Elf Ride, EP-Express, Euro-Tower, Mother Hulda, The Frog King, Grimm Library - Märchenwaldkino, Hansel and Gretel, Jim Button – Journey through Morrowland, Josefina's Magical Imperial Journey, Käthe Kruse doll exhibition in the Fairy Tale Gallery, Laser Adventure - School of Adventurers, Limerick Castle, Lítill Island - Hansgrohe water playground, Little Lamb's Land, London Bus, Madame Freudenreich Curiosités, 4D Magic Cinema, Puppet Boat Ride, Monorail, Carnival barn, Old Mac Donald's Tractor Fun, Vintage Cars, Panorama Train, Paul's Playboat, Piccolo Mondo, Pirates in Batavia, Quipse Paddle Boats, Rapunzel, Mir Space Station, Journey to Rulantica - Preview centre, Little Red Riding Hood, Treasure Chamber, House of Schellen Ursli, Sleigh Ride Snowflake, Sheep Rock, Shooting Gallery, Snorri Touren, Würmchen Wies'n Playground, British Carousel, The Wishing Table, Volo da Vinci, Rocking Bridge and Chute, Wabbly Footbridge and Rope Ferry, Water Lane, Whale Adventures – Northern Lights, Dwarf City, Root slides

Category: 2-point support required

Rides in this category have slow to medium-speed movements. The stresses that occur sometimes exceed those we are used to in everyday situations. For example, bumps and jerky movements can occur.

  • The passenger must be able to move their upper body independently from the height of the lumbar vertebrae in a controlled manner and have enough muscle strength to compensate for the forces of the attraction and to be able to assume a stable driving position throughout the journey.
  • The passenger must be able to
    • support with both feet on the ground or
    • support themselves with both natural thighs on the entire seat (up to the front edge of the seat) and be able to fix themselves with both arms.
  • Legs and arms can also be fitted with prosthetics. The maximum number of prosthetic limbs may be limited depending on the attraction.
  • Visitors who are disabled due to paraplegia must meet the following minimum requirements:
    • The upper body must move independently from the height of the lumbar vertebrae in a controlled manner and it must be possible to muster enough muscle power to compensate for the forces of the attraction and to assume a stable driving position throughout the journey.
    • Both legs must be present at least to the ankles.
    • At least one normally skilled arm and hand must be present and fully functional.

The 2-point support is required for the following attractions

Category: 3-point support required

Rides in this category perform medium-fast movements. The stresses that occur often exceed those we are used to in everyday situations. For example, larger impacts and strong jerky movements may occur. The loads can also occur over a longer period of time, sometimes for the duration of the entire journey.

  • The passenger must be able to move their upper body independently from the height of the lumbar vertebrae in a controlled manner and have enough muscle strength to compensate for the forces of the attraction and to be able to assume a stable driving position throughout the journey.
  • The passenger must
    • be able to support themselves with both legs on the ground and fix themselves with one arm or
    • support with one leg on the ground and fix themselves with both arms or
    • support with both natural thighs on the entire seat (up to the front edge of the seat) and be able to fix themselves with both arms.
  • Legs and arms can also be fitted with prosthetics. The maximum number of prosthetic limbs may be limited depending on the attraction.
  • Visitors who are disabled due to paraplegia must meet the following minimum requirements:
    • The upper body must move independently from the height of the lumbar vertebrae in a controlled manner and it must be possible to apply enough muscle power to compensate for the forces of the attraction and to assume a stable driving position throughout the journey.
    • Both legs must be present at least to the ankles.
    • At least one normally skilled arm and hand must be present and fully functional.

The 3-point support is required for the following attractions

Category: 3-point support PLUS required

Rides in this category often perform very fast movements. The stresses that occur clearly exceed those of everyday situations. For example, larger impacts, strong jerky movements and large accelerations can occur, sometimes in different directions at the same time. The loads occur mainly for the duration of the entire journey. In addition, an overhead ride can also take place.

  • The passenger must be able to move their upper body independently from the level of the lumbar vertebrae in a controlled manner and muscular strength must be sufficient to compensate for the forces of the attraction and to maintain a stable riding position throughout the ride.
  • The passenger must have both legs at least up to the ankle and must be able to restrain himself/herself with at least one functioning arm with hand.
  • Legs and arms may also be prosthetically fitted. The maximum number of prosthetically fitted limbs may be limited depending on the attraction.
  • Visitors who are impaired due to paraplegia must meet the following minimum requirements:
    • The upper body must be able to move independently in a controlled manner from the level of the lumbar vertebrae and there must be sufficient muscle strength to compensate for the forces of the attraction and to maintain a stable riding position throughout the ride.
    • Both legs must be present at least up to the ankles.
    • At least one normally formed arm with hand must be present and fully functional.
